Oblong Plate

The Oblong Plate is a stainless steel handrail post base fitting featuring an elongated, oval-rectangular base plate profile with a raised central cylindrical boss that receives the handrail post tube. As clearly shown in the image, the fitting presents a smooth, compact body where the raised cylindrical boss rises prominently from the centre of the oblong base plate, with the open tube-receiving bore visible at the top of the boss. The base plate extends in an elongated oval shape on either side of the boss, with two fixing holes positioned at each end of the plate  one at each extremity of the long axis  providing a secure two-point fixing arrangement. The entire fitting surface is smoothly formed with softly rounded edges and transitions, and the consistent satin finish is visible across all faces of the fitting in the image.

Supplied in Satin Finish and available in two tube outside diameter sizes  38.1mm and 50.8mm  the oblong plate is designed to suit the two most commonly specified round handrail tube diameters in commercial, residential, and architectural handrail installations. The central boss bore receives the handrail post tube, which is typically welded into the boss before installation to create a permanent, structurally integral post-to-base connection.

The oblong base plate profile and twin end-fixing arrangement provide the key practical advantages of this fitting. The elongated footprint and dual fixing holes positioned along the long axis create an effective moment arm between the two anchor points, providing excellent resistance to the overturning bending moment generated when the handrail post is loaded laterally  superior to a single central fixing and more space-efficient than a large round or square plate. The compact, smooth oblong body also presents a refined, low-profile appearance at the post base, making it well-suited to visible architectural handrail installations in commercial, hospitality, and residential environments where the quality and finish of base detail fittings is as important as their structural performance. The satin finish complements round tube handrail systems throughout.
