The Square Converter is a stainless steel handrail fitting designed to adapt or convert the connection between a round handrail tube and a square base plate, end cap, or fitting within the same handrail system, bridging the dimensional and geometric difference between the circular tube profile and a square mounting interface. As clearly shown in the image where two fittings are presented side by side at different sizes, providing an excellent comparative view of the fitting geometry each converter presents a flat, square base plate at the bottom with notched or serrated edges visible on all four sides of the square perimeter, and a smooth, tapered conical body rising from the centre of the square plate and narrowing progressively upward to a small cylindrical boss at the top into which the round handrail tube end is inserted. The two fittings shown are identical in form but different in size, clearly illustrating how the same converter profile scales between the 38.1mm and 50.8mm tube sizes.
Available exclusively in Grade 316 stainless steel, the square converter is offered in two surface finishes across two tube sizes. The Satin finish is available in both 38.1mm and 50.8mm, covering the two most commonly specified round handrail tube diameters used with square base plate systems. The Mirror finish, a high-polish, highly reflective surface, is available in 50.8mm only, providing a premium finish option for installations where mirror-polished handrail tube and fittings are specified throughout, and surface consistency is a design priority.
The notched or serrated edges around the perimeter of the square base plate provide a positive grip surface for secure installation and adjustment, while the smooth tapered conical body creates an elegant, refined visual transition between the flat square base and the round tube connection above. Grade 316 stainless steel provides superior chloride corrosion resistance, making these converters well-suited to outdoor, coastal, marine, and pool surround handrail installations.
