The BSP Gate Valve is a stainless steel linear-motion isolation valve with British Standard Pipe threaded end connections, designed to provide fully open or fully closed flow isolation in piping systems using a rising stem and gate mechanism that moves perpendicular to the flow axis to open or close the valve bore. As clearly shown in the image, the valve presents a compact, upright body with BSP female threaded connections visible at the left inlet and right outlet ends at the base of the body, a tall cylindrical rising stem bonnet projecting vertically upward from the valve body, and a large red multi-spoke handwheel at the top of the stem used to operate the gate. The red handwheel is the immediately distinctive visual feature of this valve, providing a large, comfortable grip diameter for multi-turn operation and clear identification of the valve in the installed pipework system.
Available exclusively in Grade 316 stainless steel, the range covers four nominal bore sizes: 15NB (1/2"), 20NB (3/4"), 25NB (1"), and 50NB (2"), addressing the most commonly specified smaller BSP pipe sizes for gate valve isolation duties in process, water, chemical, and general utility piping systems.
The gate valve operates by rotating the handwheel through multiple turns to raise or lower the gate within the valve body, a multi-turn rising stem mechanism that provides positive, deliberate actuation requiring intentional effort to open or close, reducing the risk of accidental operation at critical isolation points. When fully open, the gate retracts completely clear of the flow path, providing a full-bore, unobstructed passage with minimal pressure drop, the primary advantage of the gate valve over other valve types in applications where unrestricted flow in the open position is essential. Gate valves are intended exclusively for fully open or fully closed service rather than flow throttling. Grade 316 stainless steel with molybdenum provides superior corrosion resistance for chemical, marine, food-grade, and coastal service environments.
